Paola Antonelli’s speech was really refreshing. She spoke about designing for life, as opposed to simply the typical- she mentioned chairs, but I relate “typical” thoughts of designing to layouts, book covers, etc. the very rudimentary form of designing for beginners. However, getting a push in thinking about design in a way other than the ordinary was exciting- much like what was brought up in the previous video, using social issues as inspiration is a real good way to go. This will bring attention to design as well as move along the community in which it is posted or displayed. Also, the designs of toys and objects for disabled children really opened my eyes to my passions and abilities to do things in the real world other than in the “Adobe world”. A lot of times we get so stuck in our schooling that we tend to end our design skills at the computer, but as a seamstress and self proclaimed rather “crafty” person, I need to remember where my abilities actually stretch to. PS: I know this isn’t really the point of Stefan’s speach, but I really want to do the speech bubble thing is super funny, and now I want to do it!!!
